Now that you know that the laws regarding marriage in the military are not, and that you are familiar with these rules, you are ready to begin your happily-ever-after. Take a little pressure off of yourself, and know that your military marriage is probably going to be that mix of awesome and complicated. Marriage can be difficult enough on its own, but throw military service into the mix, and the challenges multiply. According to Hurley from Soldiers Focus, military service adds even more challenges to marriage than a civilian union, and older couples generally have more experience dealing with those kinds of challenges.
After that necessity, there are various reasons for young people to get married while serving, ranging from financial gains, safety, and love, said Hurley. The biggest challenge for young couples in the military is adapting to expectations and ideals, according to Hurley of Soldier Center. Overall, the couples agreed that although being dual-service members has added challenges, they are not that much different than any other marriage. For instance, if two service members marry, and one later becomes an officer, then that is a marriage.
For military couples, both U.S. citizens, seeking to get married on American soil, the entire marriage process works just like for civilian couples. There are rules about marriages within the military that apply to certain groups of individuals that are enlisted. Military couples need to have a copy of their marriage license, as well as multiple certified copies, to complete any required paperwork. They honor service members couples as a way of encouraging them and showing these marriages are valued and have made a difference.
Jacobs, the NBC News Military Analyst, MSNBC, said soldiers in the army are not looking for love; they want this certificate of marriage. Soldiers in the army, navy, all branches of the army, are paying women to marry them, just so they can have the privilege, at taxpayers expense. Marriage is much like the army, everybody grumbles, but you would be surprised by how many people go back into service.
Unfortunately, back then, I was rather unaware of all of the benefits of marriage in the military, which comes from marrieding into service. I really believed that toughness and love were the only components needed for the ultimate military marriage. I learned a lot of the commonalities of a military relationship (because even after leaving the military, it is still a huge part of someones life and identity) and about ways that I could have approached my own marriage more enlightened.
A strong military marriage is not necessarily something that you have to attain, but rather it is something that we can work on deliberately. What I do know is that the military couples that succeed in maintaining strong, healthy relationships for extended periods of time are worthy of undivided respect. While the honors and benefits of serving are great, military service members are faced with circumstances that can put great strain on their ability to keep marriages and families happy and healthy. The challenges of military lifestyles place a lot of demands on marines and their families, and sometimes, expectations that we set for our marriages or lives simply are not met.
No matter who or where a member of the military gets married, he should take some time to think about whether or not he is ready to get married, and what it will mean to make a lifetime commitment to someone who is serving in the military. Jon Boring said he believes younger military members get married so quickly because of youth-driven love and an opportunity to grow older more quickly. Kriscijan said Kricijan believes that service members marry young to earn more money and stay away from barracks, so that they can buy a home. It turns out that in the military, there is an invisible time line in which, past a certain point-generated by some sort of fuzzy algorithm that involves how old you are and how long you have been married-people do not feel any shame asking unsolicited questions.
